Imphal, Aug 6: The 3 days long book fair cum seminar for book promotion organised by cultural research and Meetei Mayek Training Institute under the sponsorship of National Book Trust India begins today at Manipur Press Club.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Prof. N. Mohendro Singh, National Secretary of All India Panchayat Parishad, New Delhi, expressed worried over the decline of reading habit among the people of the state particularly the student community.
“Rise in tuition culture has made the student community forget the importance of reading habit”, Prof Mohendro, who attended as the chief guest said today.
Before the tuition culture was not that necessary students prefer to read text books to get pass in the examination.
He further added that knowledge is the greatest power of human civilisation as all works are depended on it and for the foundation of knowledge reading of text book is required.
As a part of the book fair cum seminar for book promotion function various books were displayed.
Advisor of CRAMTI P.Ibochouba singh, Zonal Educational Officer of Zone-1, Gopimohan Meibam, President of Manipur State Panchayat Parishad Porompat Imphal West T. Itobi singh, Retd Regional Director of CBWE KK Singh and Librarian of Senapati District RK Urmila Devi also attended the function as president and guest of honour respectively.
