Imphal, Aug 6: Barely 24 hours after yesterday evening blasts near state Museum which injured a civilian and a security personnel, another powerful IED was found today about 100 meters away from the blast site. The IED was found today by a foot patrol team of CRPF personnel from the bypass road inbetween M-Sector and Johnston Higher Secondary School at around 6.15 am.
The IED was found planted on the footpath adjacent to Johnston Higher Secondary School by wrapping in a Plastic polythene bag and placing it at inside a flower pot
Following the detection of the IED, the bypass road, which is now an important road after the coming up of Ima Keithel Temporary Market Shed, was close at both end. Manipur Police Bomb Disposal Squad team which rushed the spot after safely defuse the bomb at around 10 am.
Police source said that the IED is about 2.4 kg in weigh and contained huge amount of splinters with dual mechanism to explode. The bomb disposal Squad could manage to diffuse only one, added the police source.
Interestingly, the site where the blast took place yesterday as well as the location where the bomb was planted today is a high security zone area. A 24 hour surveillance Santry Post of M-Sector was also stand just opposite to the location where the IED was found today morning. Besides, Police commandos on duty have been frequented every day and were conducting search operation to foil any attempt to disturb peaceful atmosphere in the area ahead of the Indian Independence Day which is celebrating on August 15.
So far no group has claimed responsibility of yesterday’s blast as well as today’s IED.
