Unknown miscreants placed a hand grenade to the residence of Nongthongbam Basant Singh (50), son of N. Ibochouba Singh at Pourabi Nungoi Makha Leikai under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal east. The hand grenade was found at the cow shed by the wife of the younger brother of N. Basant Singh at around 10.30 pm yesterday evening. The matter was immediately informed to Lamlai Police and a team which rushed to the spot safely detonated the hand grenade with the help of Bomb Squad at around 11 pm yesterday. A team Assam rifles posted at Chingarel also rushed to the site.
Later, today morning local meira paibi of Pourabi and Nungoi area staged a sit-in-protest condemning the bomb threat. Banners which denounce the act were used during the protest. Wife of Nongthongbam Basanta while speaking to reporters said that her family has no enmity with any groups or organisation neither they received any demand or threaten notes from anybody. She however said that recently her husband was elected as member of the Biramangol College Guardian College and the election for electing the general secretary and president are due to held. She said that the bomb might have been placed in connection with the participation of her husband to the college guardian committee or else there is no reason for any such threat.
