Unknown miscreants had blasted a Chinese hand grenade at the residence of Dr. Chanam Manglem Singh at his residence at Khongman Zone II at around 11.30 pm yesterday. The grenade (as according to police) probably hurled from outside the residential complex landed and blast inside the premises of the residence and causing destruction to some of the building structure, but there were no human casualties. Police team who rushed the spot after the blast found a threat note pasted at the gate of the doctor’s resident which stated that the attack was the last warning to the doctor for his stand against their party. The note also asked the doctor to contact them at the earliest possible time.
Protesting the attack large number of people today staged a sit-in-protest at Khongman Zone II. Placards with slogans defying the blast attack were also placed. Talking to reporters, Dr. Manglem, retired HOD of Gynae deptt. RIMS, now absorb at JNIMS as contract professor said that he had not received any threats from any of the underground organizations or individuals. He however said that some months back an unidentified persons came to his home in a suspicious manner and asked him as he was not at home and a lady had told him to meet later.
The name of the outfit is also mentioned to the threat note pasted at the gate of the doctor’s residence but as according to local code of ethics formulated by the Editor’s Guild, Imphal Times is not publishing its name.
