Blockade along Imphal-Moreh to be suspended; Maoist warns against narrow communal outlook.

The indefinite blockade along National Highway 102 (Imphal- Moreh road) called by the JAC formed against the killing of Ruisoting Aimol @ Mary, Chairperson of Aimol Numeis’ Waar, by 20 AR personnel on May 31 at Aimol Satu village under Chandel district have started from the midnight of June 2. A huge number of protesters including meira paibis came out on the streets at Pallel area and surrounded the 26 AR post. Vehicular movements came to a complete standstill and protest rally displaying placards and festoons were carried out. According to a latest report on the incident, a meeting was held with the JAC and the Chief Minister where the local MLA DK Korungthang was also present. Chief Minister agreed to look into the matter and assured of taking up necessary action. It was also reported that an agreement to suspend the blockade after carrying out the last rites of the deceased after the post mortem has been reached. Meanwhile, a press release of the Maoist Communist Party Manipur questioned the suspicious silence of various Meira Paibi groups, other civil society organizations and Human rights organizations even when a leader of the Meira paibi has been shot death. Stating that the incident smacks of communal discrimination, the statement, signed by Nonglen Meitei, Secretary Publicity and Propaganda further urged the people to discard such narrow thinking and come out to support the agitation for bringing the culprits to book. It also strongly condemned the unfortunate reactionary attitude of some shopkeepers who defied the blockade and opened shop today. The communiqué also warns of dire consequences for any individual or group opposing the operations of the party against the Indian army without any exception.
