BJP MLAs return from Delhi, Optimistic on early formation of Government

BJP MLAs Karam Shyam, Sapam Ranjan Singh, Heikham Dingo, Konthoujam Govindas, and Khumukcham Joykishan returned from New Delhi today, expressing cautious optimism over the early formation of a popular government in Manipur, currently under President’s Rule.
Speaking to reporters, the MLAs said that the central leadership of the party, including BJP North East in-charge Sambit Patra and General Secretary B.L. Santosh, had assured them of positive intent toward restoring an elected government. While they did not specify a timeline for the formation of the government, the legislators conveyed confidence that a stable and inclusive government would soon be installed.
MLA Karam Shyam said the latest discussions reflected a “visible concern and commitment” from the party’s central leadership. “Earlier, the talks rarely mentioned reinstating a popular government. But this time, Sambit Patra and B.L. Santosh expressed clear interest in the matter. We are hopeful that a government will be formed soon,” he said.
Sapam Ranjan Singh added that the delegation’s key objective was to brief central leaders on Manipur’s political and security situation and press for the early restoration of an elected government. “We highlighted the importance of installing a popular government to ensure stability and public trust. The discussions were positive, and we expect a favourable outcome soon,” he said.
26 BJP MLAs had been camping in Delhi for several days, seeking audiences with the party’s top leadership. On October 10, a six-member delegation led by Legislative Assembly Speaker Th. Satyabrata Singh, former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, and former ministers Thongam Biswajit, Yumkham Khemchand, Konthoujam Govindas, and Kh. Ibomcha met B.L. Santosh at his residence. According to a statement by Kh. Ibomcha, the delegation apprised the central leadership of Manipur’s political scenario, emphasizing the need to expedite the peace process and restore an inclusive government.
Earlier, on October 8, BJP MLAs held a meeting at Manipur Bhavan, New Delhi, attended by Sambit Patra, who reportedly assured the legislators that the Centre remained committed to reinstating a popular government and that the term of President’s Rule would not be extended.
With some MLAs already back in Imphal and others expected to follow soon, the party legislators remain cautiously optimistic, signaling renewed hope for the formation of an elected government after months of political uncertainty.
