BJP Manipur Pradesh pays tribute to Martyrs on Khongjom Day

BJP Manipur Pradesh led by K. Bhavananda Singh ,State President pay homage and tribute to the martyr’s forefathers who sacrificed their lives fighting against the mighty British soldiers to safeguard the freedom and sovereignty of our motherland on the occasion of Khongjom Day, today morning at State Party Head Office, Nityaipat Chuthek ,Imphal .
On the occasion BJP Manipur recounted the events of the Anglo British War of 1891.
A statement by M.Asnikumar Singh,  State Vice President BJP Manipur Pradesh said that the British expected a walkover in the battle of Thoubal but our resistance lasted for 10 days. The British commander, Lt Grant was later awarded the ‘Victoria Cross’, the British highest gallantry award equivalent of our ‘Param Vir Chakra’ for his actions in Manipur.  This was a clear reflection of the strong and formidable resistance put up by the brave Manipuri soldiers.
It added that the Battle of Khongjom was the greatest battle of the Anglo Manipur War. Powerful British cannons effected fatal impacts at the fort of Manipur, but the gallant Manipuri warriors fought till their last breathe to safeguard the territory and independence of Manipur. It was the decisive battle of the Anglo Manipur war. On 27th April, 1891 the British forces occupied Kangla resulting in the end of freedom of all the Manipuris. The greatest freedom fighters of Manipur sacrificed their lives at this battlefield. That was the true Manipur, a Manipur devoid of hatred and jealousy amongst its communities. Our heroes- Major Paona Brajabasi, Chinglen Sana, Khumbong Major, Loitongba Jamadar  and the great Jubraj Tikendrajit laid their lives in the Anglo – Manipuri war.
BJP Manipur Pradesh appealed the people of Manipur to unite and took a firm stand to defend the unity, dignity, and sovereignty of our motherland in respect to salute the great martyred warrior.
