Birmangol College Students Gherao state Education (U) office

Over hundreds of students from Birmangol College Sawombung today Gherao the office of State Education (U) Department, at Nityaipat Chuthek at around 12 noon today, demanding immediate resumption of classes by appointing a regular principal of the college.
The large number of students today gathered at the office premises of DESAM at Keishampat junction and from there they preceded a protest rally till the office complex of Keishampat Nityaipat Chuthek. Later, the student gherao the office by staging a protest demonstration without allowing any of the officials to either come out from the office or go in the office.
Earlier, on September 14, the students of the college had staged a protest rally demanding immediate resumption of classes at Sawombung area. When the students return back the college gate was found locked using police by the college authority. Wrath over the attitude, the college students destroyed the lock and then ransacked the office of the principal in-charge. The students also poured their anger to the college authority by vandalizing the college benches and desks. Police even fire a round of tear gas shell to control the agitating students. Later, the students also blocked Imphal Ukhrul road for sometime in front of their college.
Speaking to reporters in front of the State education (U) office, General Secretary of the student union of the college L. Dhaneshori said that government authority has turn blind to the problems of the students of this college. She said that the union had submitted memorandum time and again to the Education Minister as well as the matter has been put to the notice of other top officials of the department but no action has been taken up to save the career of the students. She added that the tussle between the members of the governing body is one reason for the  failure to run the college properly.
“The college was established in 1973 and till today government authority had never appointed a full-fledged principal.
On the other hand the teaching community of the college too supported the demand of the students but said that as their 10 months’ salary/ honorarium has not been cleared till today they are also unable to attend the classes due to financial problem.
Till the filing of this story no authority had come out to talk the students.
