Statewide bandh called by tribal Students’ body from today morning has severely affected normalcy at many parts of the Hill districts of the state.
The bandh is called demanding recruitment of tribal Language (MIL) teachers in Higher Secondary Schools in the state by three students’ body which is supported by other tribal students’ body. The bandh however fails to give any impact in the valley districts of the state.
Since early morning today volunteers of the Thadou Students Association, Chandel/Tengnoupal Branch came out on the Imphal Moreh Road and set fire using tyres in the middle of the road blocking all sort of traffic along the NH 102..
Indo-Myanmar border trade has also been severely affected due to the ongoing bandh.
Speaking to media persons General Secretary of Thadou Students Association, Chandel/Tengnoupal Branch, Lelen Haokip said that negligence to the demand of the tribal students prompted the students to support the bandh called as it is a genuine issue. He said the bandh will continue until the demand are fulfilled.
Thadou Students’ Association, General Headquarters (TSA-GHQ), Siamsinpawlpi , General Head Quarter (SSPP-GHQ) Rongmei Naga Syudents’ Organisation, North East Idia (RSO-NEI) and Liangmei Naga Katimai Ruangdi (LNKR-AMN) called the state wide bandh starting today over failure of the state government in recruiting Tribal Language (MIL) Lecturers at Higher Secondary Schools in the state.
The students bodies have been demanding appointment of the MIL tribal language lecturers in Higher Secondary Schools of the state.
Earlier, the Joint Student bodies have served an ultimatum to the state government on June 26 through press communiqué and also submitted the copy to both the Chief Minister and the Education minister demanding immediate action by issuing notification for recruitment of the MIL teacher on or before June 30.
During the Bandh Medical, media, Water Supply, Electricity, religious Activities and airport were exempted.
