Awareness Programme under NMBA held; Transgender ID cards distributed

The District Administration Kakching in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Office (DSWO) conducted an awareness and interaction programme under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) at the Royal Brighter Academy, Sora in Kakching District.
The programme was graced by Amir Khan, Founder of Royal Brighter Academy as Chief Guest; Seram Asha, District Social Welfare Officer, Kakching as President and Keibuan Kamei, Principal of Royal Brighter Academy as Guest of Honour. Y. Basanta Singh from the Social Awareness Volunteer Organization attended the programme as Resource Person. As part of the programme, students took a pledge under NMBA to work towards a drug-free and a healthy society.
The objective of the programme was to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse, educate participants on the importance of a drug-free lifestyle and promote a sense of responsibility towards building a drug-free and healthy society. It also aimed to gain and maintain public support in the collective fight against drugs.
Meanwhile, the District Social Welfare Office, Kakching, distributed transgender identity card and certificate to 11 transgender persons from the district. The identity cards and certificates were handed over by Rohit Anand, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Kakching at the DC Office Complex, Kakching.
In India, transgender individuals can apply online for a transgender certificate and identity card through the National Portal for Transgender Persons. This nationally recognized card, provided by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, is mandatory to avail the welfare measures being provided under the Support for Marginalized Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise (SMILE) scheme.
