As part of the observance of the 71st Wildlife Week Celebration 2025, the Thoubal Forest Division organised a District-Level Awareness Programme on Wildlife Conservation cum Valedictory Function today at the Community Hall, Khongjom War Memorial Complex, Thoubal.
The weeklong celebration, which began on October 2 and will conclude on October 8, is being held under the theme “Human-Animal Co-existence.” The valedictory function was attended by Deputy Commissioner Thoubal, Hannah Kamei (IAS), DFO Thoubal Forest Division, Dr. L. Jeeceelee, and Addl. SP Thoubal, N. Suraj, as chief guest, president, and guest of honour respectively.
A special session on snake rescue was conducted during the programme, with Research Scholars Nongthombam Hemeshwor Singh and Jenishkumar Thingujam from the Department of Zoology, Manipur University, serving as resource persons.
Throughout the week, various activities such as painting, essay, and quiz competitions were organised across different locations to engage and educate students about wildlife and environmental protection.
Speaking at the function, DC Hannah Kamei highlighted the importance of preserving wildlife for maintaining ecological balance. She encouraged collective action between the Forest Department and the public in protecting wild animals and their habitats, while urging everyone to adopt lawful and responsible practices in conservation efforts.
She also emphasised that protecting wildlife is vital for safeguarding the environment and ensuring sustainable living.
The event was attended by SDO Thoubal Arbin Hanglem, CMO Thoubal Dr. Y. Nokul, Range Officer Thoubal Dineschandra Salam, Range Officer Kakching Huidrom Sundar, Beat Officers, and students from various schools of Thoubal and Kakching districts.
