The All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation (AMUCO), along with its district-level associate, the United Clubs’ Organisation of Bishnupur District (UCOBID), in collaboration with the Agriculture Department, Government of Manipur, today organised an “Awareness Generation Programme on National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF)” with farmers from Ningthoukhong, Upokpi, and Toupokpi villages at Upokpi Maning Malleibi Loukol in Bishnupur district.
During the programme, Ahanthem Ronel, Nodal Officer of the Agriculture Department, explained the objectives and benefits of the National Mission on Natural Farming to the farmers. He elaborated on how to cultivate indigenous crops through natural farming methods and highlighted the important role farmers can play in promoting sustainable agriculture. He also pointed out the advantages of adopting natural farming practices.
AMUCO’s Secretary (Organisation), Laishram Krishnachandra, and UCOBID’s President, Wahengbam Basanta, also attended and took part in the event.
To ensure the continuous promotion of natural farming, a committee was formed during the programme. The organisers stressed the importance of committing fully to natural farming practices and working towards expanding its reach among the farming community.
Prominent farmers such as S. Bikram from Kwasiphai, Sur Singh from Upokpi, and P. Basanta from Ningthoukhong, actively contributed to the discussions during the programme.
Speakers emphasised that in the face of the deteriorating environment, farmers must shift towards sustainable agriculture by avoiding chemical-based farming practices.
