ATSUM call off total shut down agitation; MoU signed, all 3 arrested leaders released unconditionally

Following talks with the representatives of the government of Manipur and the ATSUM representative which began at 5.30 pm yesterday, All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) has called off the total shut down agitation which began yesterday morning following the arrest of their three leaders.
The three ATSUM office bearers namely Henkai Singsit, Khaiminlen Doungel, and Simthar Jajo who were arrested by the Imphal West Police team in connection with the agitation for closure of the government offices demanding the ADC election yesterday morning has been agreed to be released without any condition by the state government authority.
The meeting between the ATSUM representatives and the government representative was held at the official quarter of Water Resource and YAS Minister Letpao Haokip . He was accompanied by PHED Minister L. Dikho and tribal Affairs and Hills Minister Vungzagin Valte.
The ATSUM team was led by Vice president Vanlallian Khaute while the government team was led by TA & Hill Minister Vungzagin Valte.
The state government had already announced to conduct the ADC election by July 25. There is no mention of whether the ATSUM will continue the closure of the government offices even as they have called off the total shutdown. However, the ATSUM is convening a meeting today evening at 4 pm to settle the ADC Election impasse.
A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the ATSU and the Government representative in the connection.
