Secretary of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, Meghajit today defended the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly regarding the allegations levelled against him on the alleged assault of a Sub Inspector of Manipur Police on May 10 evening. During an interaction with some media persons the secretary said that the public uproar against the unfortunate incident may have some points however blaming the speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly for the entire incident is not reasonable. He said that there is nothing wrong in demanding justice by constituting an enquiry but putting the blame to the speaker is not justified as he was not present at the site when the incident happened. During the meeting Driver of the Speaker, Santhathoi, who drive the vehicle on that evening said that soon after he sense some trouble he drive the speaker towards his residence at Keishampat as he is not sure about the identity of the person on the Gypsy vehicle. He said his duty is to protect the Speaker and instead of listening to the speaker himself he has to look for a safe side first before anything happened.
