Assault to a Police Sub Inspector by the escort personnel of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Speaker, Th. Lokheshwar near Johnston Higher Secondary School at BT Park Imphal on the evening of May 10 has sparked series of protest from civil society organisations at Sagolband and Tera area. Large number of people from Sagolband and Tera area came out at NH 37 at Tera Bazaar area and stopped all short of vehicular movement along the route since early morning today till 4 pm today. Volunteers of Sagolband Welfare Club and Sagolband Apunba Meira Paibi Lup also staged a sit-in-protest demanding immediate action against the escort personnel of Th. Lokeshwar who were allegedly involved to the beating of the Police sub inspector while in civil dress along with his wife and children.
Speaking to media persons, a Meira Paibi leader said that they will continue the agitation until the the culprits involved were punished with the law of the land. She said if the demand for punishment of the culprits is not punished before Thursday they will intensify the agitation from Friday.
Mentioned may be made that Sub-Inspector of Manipur Police Arambam Amitabh was allegedly assaulted by the escort team of Speaker Th. Lokeshwar over a heated argument for taking over of the vehicle. Amitabh reportedly came in a car along with his wife and his two children.
