Assassination plot reported against former UNLF Chief RK Meghen; Security tightens around his residence

Security measures have been intensified at the residential area of former UNLF Chairman RK Meghen @ Sanayaima at Yaiskul Sana Janmasthan following report of an assassination plot. The report of strengthening security measures to the surrounding of the residence of former UNLF chief appeared at web portal, the Wire in its yesterday’s edition. As per the report, the Superintendent of Police Imphal West K. Meghachandra confirmed the assassination plot to the former rebel leader.

The news portal also reported that the police had also advised the rebel leader to restrict his movement.

 74 years old R.K. Meghen, the Chairman of the banned outfit United National Liberation Front (UNLF) was arrested in 2010 and was released in November last week of 2019 after completing jail term convicted by the NIA Court. A family source said that he returned after around 44 years.

A source close to Imphal Times said that the state police had wanted to provide security escort for RK Meghen some 2 months back, but the former rebel leader refused to take personal security.

After his released RK Meghen was never seen at any public gathering except on the Birth Anniversary function of Pioneer Journalist NK Sanajaoba held on Dec 30 last year at Lamyanba Sanglen, Palace Compound here in Imphal. There he paid tribute to the departed journalist along with others.
