Assam Rifles fails to restore trust of Meira Paibis

Assam Rifles – the sentinel of the North East has failed to restore the trust of the valley people of Indian North Eastern State Manipur with more and more protests demanding their replacement catching media attention.
Large numbers of Meira Paibis today strongly opposed the deployment of Assam Rifles troops on the railway track between Salam Luker and Phayeng in Imphal West district. Meira Paibis of the area today gathered at Haorang Thongkhong and staged protest against any plan for the deployment of Assam Rifles in the area.
“We know how the Assam Rifles had responded to the ongoing violence in the state. We don’t want what the Assam Rifles are doing here. And so, we are against deployment of Assam Rifles”, a Meira Paibi joining the protest told media persons today. She also warned the Ministers, MLAs, and the Government of Manipur from fueling the ongoing violence that is burning the state.
Meira Paibis of the area staged protest and stood against the deployment of Assam Rifles after they get report for arranging the deployment of the Assam Rifles at the Railway godown at Haorang Keiren. People of the area feel that their presence may escalate the tension in the area.
The Meira Paibi said that as they have witnessed many incidents during the ongoing violence in which the Assam Rifles seemed to be sided with armed Kuki militants.
“We want peace and the government should work out to restore peace in the region by understanding who are escalating the violence in the region”, the Meira Paibi said.
