In the wake of recent allege reports of harassment and atrocities meted out to non-Manipuri communities over ILPS movement, Chief Minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi has urged his Manipur counterpart to ensure safety of non-locals who are residing in the state.
In his letter to Chief Minister of Manipur, Ibobi, the Assam CM said that several memorandums have been received by the district administration of Cachar district in Assam and it appears that people belonging to non-Manipuri communities residing in Manipur are living under threat and fear.
He also appealed to provide an environment where the non-Manipuris (Assamese) can live and work in peace and harmony.
“The series of agitations launched by various organizations in Manipur’s Jiribam area had considerable impact in Assam, particularly in Cachar as a neighboring district to Jiribam. The agitations alleged atrocities on people of various communities of Assam living in or visiting Manipur,” reads the letter.
