Guwahati, June 21:

Finally, the Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa, who is also the convenor of NEDA has refuted the claim by the Chairman of the Kuki militant group the UKLF in connection with the agreement for supporting the BJP in 2017 and 2019 Manipur Election.
A statement by Himanta Biswa Sarma has categorically denied allegations of the BJP taking help from Kuki militant groups to secure win for the BJP during the 2017 Manipur assembly elections and 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
“Some baseless allegations have been levelled in recent social media posts on understanding with some UG (underground) leaders of Manipur,” said Himanta Biswa Sarma.
“It is reiterated that there is no engagement with any such elements,” the NEDA convenor said.
The statement comes admit the Congress demands for Sarma’s arrest under the stringent National Security Act (NSA) for allegedly taking the help of a Kuki militant group for the 2017 Manipur election.
Lashing out at the Congress, Himanta Biswa Sarma said the claims made against him by the party were false.
Assam Congress chief Bhupen Borah last week demanded that Sarma be arrested under the National Security Act (NSA).
Mira Borthakur Goswami submitted a memorandum to the state director general of police in this regard. She sought a “deeper investigation” by the police into the allegations.
