Imphal, Sept 5: Due to incessant rains, landslides and resultant extensive damage to communication infrastructure in the region, essential services like telephone and internet facility in the State of Manipur and parts of Nagaland have taken a severe hit.  The problem was further complicated due to damaged road and delayed restoration work.
The Red Shield Division provided high bandwidth Optical Fibre Cable to BSNL authorities of Nagaland and Manipur to restore the tele communication infrastructure.  Brig HS Cheema on behalf of the Red Shield Division, handed over the OFC to BSNL authorities at Zakhama.  The Army signallers later laid the cable over the affected areas and restored the communications.  The coordination and joint planning was done at the Dimapur based Spear Corps.  These stores have been utilised to restore communications to Zakhama, Kohima and Senapati district.  Further restoration of services to remote areas along Imphal-Moreh road is under progress.
Mr J Lunkim, General Manager, BSNL, Manipur on 03 September met Maj Gen PN Rao, SM, GOC, Red Shield Division and thanked the Army authorities for the support.
