Arms, mortars recovered during search operation in Kangpokpi

A joint team of Kangpokpi District Police and the 19 Assam Rifles recovered a cache of arms, ammunition and other war-like stores during a search operation conducted in Kangpokpi district today.

Acting on specific intelligence about concealed weapons, the joint team launched a combing operation at around 5 am in the general area of Xero Point, about 3.4 km north of the Kotlen Company Operating Base (COB), along a hill road.

During the search, the security forces recovered one .22 rifle with magazine, 11 single-barrel bolt-action rifles, four single-barrel pull-mechanism rifles, three 9 mm pistols (Italian-, US- and German-made), one Japanese-made .22 pistol, and five improvised mortars.

The team also seized 100 rounds of .22 live ammunition, seven single-barrel live rounds, five fired Lathod cartridge cases, 200 fired AK-47 cartridge cases, three metres of cortex wire, four Motorola batteries, one PEK and three mobile phones.

The operation continue till 8:45 am without any arrests or untoward incidents.
