Imphal, Mar 11:
In a brazen display of aggression, armed Kuki militants have once again targeted Meitei villages in Manipur, defying the presence of a significant number of central paramilitary forces and the army. Despite government assurances of restored normalcy, Kwatha Village bore the brunt of their violence yesterday evening. The militants spared no mercy, setting ablaze two houses, along with the newly constructed Primary School and Health Sub-Center, which was yet to be inaugurated.
Situated on the border between India and Myanmar, Kwatha Khunou stands as the last bastion of Manipur’s Tengnoupal district. It now stands as a grim testament to the relentless cycle of violence that continues to plague the region. Despite efforts from both locals and authorities, including personnel from the 31 Assam Rifles, the flames raged unchecked, leaving a trail of devastation in their wake.
The incident unfolded under the cover of darkness, around 10:30 pm on March 10, shattering the relative peace that the village had managed to maintain amidst the turmoil of the past 10 months. As the flames subsided, the scars of the attack serve as a stark reminder of the challenges that persist in the quest for lasting peace and stability in Manipur.
