Questioning whether the differently abled children aren’t the pillar of the future nation. Differently abled students along with their guardians staged sit-in-protest at the gate of Blind School, Takyel demanding various facilities which have been neglected by the government. The protest was organised by Parents and Duardians council of Persons with Disability.
Speaking to media persons President of Parents and Guardians Council of Persons with Disability Thangjam Saratkumar said that the even though a memorandum has already been given to the Chief Minister demanding various facilities for the welfare of the differently abled students, but sadly no initiatives have been taken up by the government till now.
He said that as the differently abled students don’t have a Government higher secondary school their dreams have been shattered as they can’t furnish further education. So he appealed the state government to upgrade the Government Ideal School and Government Deaf and Mute school to a higher secondary level and also to run a state government school for Intellectual and Development Disabilities.
Saratkumar further said that as the schools lack proper staffs and due to the lack of warden and caretaker various crimes have been occurred like missing of students frequently. He also appeal to recruit new teachers and staffs for proper functioning of the schools for the differently abled person.
Condemning that the Government doesn’t implement properly the Right to Disability Act which was passed already in 2016, he urged the government to implement the act properly in the state also.
He finally appealed to set up a Separate Directorate for Person With Disability to expedite in addressing the issues related to disability including preparation and implementation of schemes, programmes etc.
Saratkumar concluded that various forms of protest will be initiated if the government doesn’t consider their needful demands.
