A report by the PIB Defence Wing said that a large number of people torched their vehicle and attack their post located at Kangpokpi district in Manipur.
The PIB (DW) statement said that based on specific intelligence, Security Forces launched an operations on night June 4 to nab Secretary of KRA along with 3-4 cadres in Kangpokpi District, Manipur. Security Forces approached to make an inquiry when KRA cadres and their accomplices manhandled one of the Assam Rifles personnel and attempted to fire on the troops. Sensing the imminent danger and threat to life, the party reacted using minimum force.
While the operation was in progress, a huge mob of locals surrounded the Assam Rifles post and resorted to unprovoked violence and arson. The mob torched two Assam Rifles vehicles and caused damage to the Assam Rifles post at Gelnel Village. They also disrupted the main road connectivity for more than 24 hours causing lot of inconvenience to local commuters.
The Security Forces exercised total restraint to control the unruly mob with special consideration towards safety of human life and collateral damage.
Indian Army has ordered an inquiry into the matter. Assam Rifles remains committed to maintaining peace and normalcy in the region.
The report of the PIB DW was however, lambasted saying that the person who got shot and killed was an innocent civilian, the ATSUM vehemently condemn the shooting of the civilian. Meanwhile armed body KRA also denied charges of the deceased as the finance secretary of the organization. The armed group said that the person is in any way related with the KRA.
