Imphal, Sept 16: Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam today categorically stated the danger of selective reading as there is a possibility of missing out the important points which is mention to the write up.
Speaking as the chief guest of the 42nd Foundation Day of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) held at Manipur Press Club, Imphal, Gaikhangam said that there is a possibility of creating misunderstanding if one fails to understand the full content of what has been written.
The Deputy Chief Minister was referring to the present agitation by Hill based civil society bodies against the passing of the three Government Bills for introduction of the permit system in the state.
“There is nothing that will hurt the sentiments of the tribal people”, said Gaikhangam.
“Just by reading some of the points instead of going through the contents will not let the people understand what the Bills is all about”, he added.
He further said that there are provisions in the ML & LR Act which forbid its extension to the Hill area.
He said that that if one go through the contain of the Bills not by selective reading but going deep into the content then it will be easier to understand that the Bills only meant to protect the Manipur People. It only frames some rules and requirement when non Manipur people wanted to buy land in the state.
“ We have been inviting those people who are opposing the Bills for talk but till now nobody is ready to hold talk but are sidelining the matter”, Gaikhangam said.
He further said that everyone is welcome to point out the wrong if there is any and government is comited to correct the wrong.
MLA Biren who attended the foundation Day function said that state journalist need to clarify from the resource person if the statement he make contradicts to the points he had earlier put up. Biren was talking about the publication of stories by reporters without verifying to what anybody said.
“In certain sensitive issues journalist need to be careful”, the former editor of Naharol gi Thoudang who is now a member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly said.
