AMMSO flags disruption of education amid ongoing unrest in Manipur

The All Manipur Muslim Students’ Organisation has raised serious concern over the continued disruption of education in Manipur due to prolonged unrest, bandhs, and recurring violence, warning of long-term consequences for students across the state.
In a press statement issued by its Secretary General Kh. Khurshid Alam, the organisation noted that since May 3, 2023, clashes between two communities have resulted in loss of lives, displacement of many families, and destruction of property, leaving the situation fragile despite signs of partial normalcy.
Highlighting the education sector, AMMSO stated that students in Manipur have already suffered setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the ongoing blockades, shutdowns, and violence have further hindered academic activities. It cautioned that frequent interruptions are affecting students’ ability to continue their studies and could impact their future prospects.
The organisation appealed to the public to refrain from bandhs, blockades, and shutdowns, stating that such actions not only disrupt education but also adversely affect daily wage earners and economically weaker sections.
While condemning recent incidents of violence, including the killing of two minors at Tronglaobi on April 7 and the killing of two civilians at TM Kasom Village in Ukhrul district on April 18, AMMSO also criticised the reported use of force by security personnel against protestors, which allegedly led to casualties and injuries.
Further, the organisation urged the Manipur Government to identify those responsible for the incidents, make their identities public, and take strict legal action. It also called on authorities to adopt effective measures to restore normalcy and ensure that students can pursue their education without disruption.
Reiterating its appeal, AMMSO urged all communities to work collectively towards restoring peace and stability in Manipur in the larger interest of society.
