Imphal, Oct 21:
Amid growing speculation over a group of 19 MLAs from Manipur reportedly submitting a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the removal of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has stepped forward with assurances of sports infrastructure development in the state. Rijiju, who serves as the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs and is also an MP from Arunachal Pradesh, made the announcement following a meeting with Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and YAS Minister Govindas Konthoujam.
Taking to social media platform ‘X’, Rijiju acknowledged N. Biren Singh’s contributions to infrastructure development in Manipur, particularly in the state’s hill areas through various schemes under the Ministry of Minority Affairs. He stated, “Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has built many valuable infrastructures in the Hills of Manipur through the schemes of the Ministry of Minority Affairs. Now, he has requested the building of Sports Infrastructure in Imphal. We will do it.”
This announcement comes amidst speculation that a faction of MLAs is seeking leadership changes in the state, though no formal confirmation has been made. However, Rijiju’s focus on development seems aimed at reinforcing the central government’s support for the ongoing projects in Manipur, signaling continued investment in the state’s infrastructure despite the political uncertainties.
During his visit, Rijiju was also impressed by the progress of residential schools being constructed by the Manipur government in Senapati district. In response to Rijiju’s remarks, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh expressed his pride in these educational projects through a post on ‘X’. He emphasized the significance of the residential schools being built in Manipur’s hill districts, stating, “The residential schools that we have built in the hill districts hold a special place in my heart. These schools are more than just buildings—they are investments in our children’s future, equipping them with the education and opportunities they deserve. This is the asset we are building today to secure a brighter tomorrow for the next generation.”
Biren Singh also shared images of residential schools constructed in districts such as Senapati and Chandel, highlighting similar projects in Jiribam, Tengnoupal, Ukhrul, and Tamenglong. These initiatives are part of the state government’s broader strategy to improve educational access and opportunities for children in remote and underserved regions of Manipur.
The focus on infrastructure development, particularly in education and sports, underscores the state government’s commitment to long-term growth, even as political speculations continue to swirl. Both Rijiju and Biren Singh’s statements reflect an emphasis on securing future opportunities for the youth of Manipur through enhanced educational facilities and sports infrastructure.
