AMFPA urges government to establish Film Division under DIPR

The All Manipur Film Producers Association (AMFPA) has urged the Government of Manipur to set up a dedicated Film Division under the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) to regulate, promote, and preserve Manipuri cinema in line with the policies of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.
A release from the Association highlighted that AMFPA, formed in 1978, has been a pioneering body in Manipuri cinema and a founding member of the Film Forum Manipur. Since the release of Matamgi Manipur in 1972, the first Manipuri feature film, the Association has played a central role in safeguarding the growth and development of the state’s film industry.
The Association reminded producers that all film production banners and titles must be registered with AMFPA before release. It also advised consulting the Association before organizing any Yaipha Thouni (ritual or inaugural ceremony) to ensure compliance with established norms and protect filmmakers’ rights.
AMFPA stated that such measures are vital to maintain discipline in the industry while upholding the cultural and professional standards of Manipuri cinema. The Association appealed to the state government to establish a Film Division at the earliest.
