AMFA apologises for rock concert at Khuman Lampak

IT News
Imphal, Aug 14:

The All Manipur Football Association (AMFA) has apologised for the unfortunate incidents that occurred during an event organized by the association at Khuman Lampak Astro Turf to commemorate the sacrifices of the heroes of the Anglo-Manipuri War, under the theme “Leibak Ningba Eshei” (Song for the Nation). The event has faced criticism for being inappropriate given the current situation in the state.
According to AMFA General Secretary Laiphangbam Jyotirmoy Roy, the concert was intended to promote Manipur’s rich cultural heritage through music and to strengthen the association’s ties with the community. Supported by Mami TV, the event was meant to be a celebration of the state’s spirit and unity, with songs reflecting the valor and pride of Manipur.
However, L Jyotirmoy Roy acknowledged that the event took an unexpected turn once the rock concert started. AMFA had agreed to the event with the understanding that such incidents would not occur.
Following the concert, the All Manipur Ethnical Socio-Cultural Organisation (AMESCO) expressed strong disapproval. During a meeting at the AMESCO office on Sega Road, General Secretary Joy Ningthoujam criticized the manner in which the youths behaved, particularly in light of the recent unrest in the state.
He argued that the concert detracted from the solemnity and historical importance of the day, calling for more appropriate ways to commemorate the state’s independence.
In his address, Joy Ningthoujam urged that events should be organized with careful consideration of the current social climate.
In a press release by AMESCO, it was stated that L. Jyotirmoy Roy has expressed regret, stating, “Such incidents will not take place in the future, and what happened is regrettable. AMFA is at fault here.” He apologised for the unwanted incidents that took place during the event.
