AJWJU celebrates silver jubilee

The All Jiribam Working Journalists’ Union (AJWJU) marked a significant milestone in its history by celebrating its 25th Foundation Day on September 23, 2025. The event, commemorating a quarter-century of commitment to journalism in the region, took place at the conference hall of the PWD guest house in Jiribam.
The celebration was attended by notable figures, including Semmi Ramror, the Superintendent of Police for Jiribam District; Ng. Biswajit Singh, the President of AJWJU; and N. Budhachandra Singh, a respected social activist from Jiribam. Moirangthem Mubi, a retired Superintendent of Police in Jiribam, and N. Bidyananda, the District Information Officer, also graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour, respectively.
H. Bikramjit Singh, the General Secretary of AJWJU, delivered a heartfelt welcome and keynote address. He emphasized the vital role that journalists play in society, especially in the context of Jiribam, where the media landscape is still developing. In his speech, Bikramjit shed light on the myriad challenges faced by the limited number of media professionals in the district, particularly in balancing multiple coverage demands during significant events.
“We must acknowledge the relentless efforts of our journalists, who often work under challenging circumstances to bring accurate and timely information to the public,” Bikramji stated. He called upon the residents of Jiribam for their continued support and cooperation, stressing that a robust media environment is essential for the community’s growth and awareness.
A poignant moment of the celebration was the honouring of the families and relatives of departed journalists from Jiribam. The AJWJU took this opportunity to recognize and pay tribute to those who have dedicated their lives to the field of journalism, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the profession and the community at large.
The silver jubilee celebration not only marked a significant achievement for the AJWJU but also served as a reminder of the ongoing journey of journalism in Jiribam. As the Union looks ahead to the future, it remains committed to fostering a vibrant media landscape that informs, educates, and empowers the people of Jiribam.
