AICC North East in-charge for Fishermen Congress Ningombam Bupenda Meitei, who is also Congress spokesperson in Manipur, has strongly condemned the last night attack on Congress’ former Minister and Ex-PCC President of Tripura Birajit Sinha.
Mentioned may be made that the former Minister and MLA Birajit Sinha of Tripura was roughed up by a group of goons while his PG Jainal Miah sustained injuries at Madhavbari area under Ranir Bazar police station late yesterday night.
Soon after the incident, the MLA lodged an FIR against ‘unknown persons’ with Ranir Bazar police station alleging a group had tried to attack him. Police rushed to the spot but no one has been arrested yet.
In the FIR, Sinha, the former PCC chief said he was returning to his hometown Kailashabar by a scorpio vehicle tonight. “At around 9 pm, my vehicle stopped at Madhavbari area under Majlishpur Assembly constituency so that the people accompanying me to have dinner in a hotel. Suddenly, the youths started abusing me with filthy language. They tried to provoke me. When we were approaching to the vehicle, a few youth hurled stone at my vehicle. As my PG protested, he was attacked by the goons. He sustained injury”, he said in the FIR.
Sinha requested the police to investigate the matter and do justice.
As the news spread, former MLA Rajeshwar Debbarma condemned the attack on the party leader- Birajit Sinha.
Ningombam Bupenda Meitei expressed his condemnation, through Twitter, stating, “I urge Chief Minister of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb to strengthen the security cover provided to Congress leader Birajit Sinha, who was attacked last night.”
Bhupendra also twitted that he telephoned MLA Birajit today and stated that the MLA shared with him that he had been attacked thrice in this year.
Bupenda Meitei urged the Tripura Chief Minister to increase the strength of security cover which has been provided to the Congress leader Birajit Sinha of Tripura.
Ningombam Bupenda Meitei was appointed by the then Congress President Rahul Gandhi to look into the organisation of All India Fishermen Congress under AICC for the entire 8 North East states.
