Abrogate SoO or face a crisis worse than June 18, warns Ima Keithel committee

Imphal, Feb 25:

The Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Co-ordinating Committee For Peace is fervently advocating for the abrogation of the Suspension of Operation during the forthcoming Manipur Legislative Assembly session. Laishram (O) Mema, the Convenor of the committee, articulated during a press conference that the relentless attacks and atrocities perpetrated by Kuki militants against civilians in the state necessitate the immediate termination of the Suspension of Operation agreement signed with the Government of India. Mema emphasized that failure on the part of the government to accede to this demand would not only be detrimental to the interests of Manipur but would also precipitate a dire situation surpassing the ominous events of June 18.
Mema alleged that the Government’s failure to apprehend and prosecute Kuki militants, who have been actively seeking to destabilize Manipur, is deeply concerning. She passionately demanded the release of six individuals detained in connection with a case involving the seizure of weapons and ammunition, asserting their innocence.
In her impassioned plea, Mema exclaimed, “The Kuki militants have brazenly attacked various locations in Manipur, and yet the government has failed to effectively thwart their nefarious activities. In such dire circumstances, the youth of Manipur felt compelled to take matters into their own hands by seizing arms and ammunition to defend our beloved Manipur. What could possibly be wrong with that?”
She further emphasized, “The Government must expedite the release of these six individuals, as their sole intention was to safeguard the integrity of Manipur and protect its people from harm.”
The committee also condemned the recent bomb attack targeting a student organization’s office within DM University premises. Mema expressed her dismay, stating, “The bomb attack at DM University, coupled with subsequent arson attacks on various civil society organizations and schools, is utterly deplorable. Such acts of violence are deeply regrettable and have no place in our society.”
She went on to stress, “We implore all organizations involved to refrain from resorting to violence and instead opt for constructive dialogue to address their grievances and reach mutually acceptable resolutions regarding their aspirations and desires.”
