The All Assam Manipuri Students’ Union (AAMSU) has expressed profound grief and extended heartfelt condolences over the tragic loss of two children in a bomb attack at Tronglaobi Awang Leikai in Manipur’s Bishnupur district on April 7.
In a statement, AAMSU General Secretary Mutum Thoiba identified the victims as a 5-year-old boy and a 5-month-old baby girl and attack also left their mother, O. Binita Devi, critically injured and battling for her life. The union stated that the incident has caused immense suffering to families and plunged the region into deep sorrow.
Strongly condemning the attack, AAMSU termed the act as “inhumane and cowardly violence” allegedly carried out by Kuki militants, calling it a direct assault on peace, humanity, and justice.
The union also condemned the alleged firing by CRPF personnel on protesters, which reportedly resulted in the death of three individuals and injuries to ten others. It described the use of force against civilians as unacceptable.
AAMSU further criticised the authorities for failing to contain the violence and ensure accountability, stating that such lapses have endangered innocent lives.
Demanding immediate action, the union urged the government to bring those responsible to justice and restore peace and security in the region, asserting that Manipur deserves justice, security, and dignity.
