Manipur aims to plant 40 lakh saplings by September 2024

The 75th Van Mahotsav Celebration has been commemorated with a large-scale tree plantation drive conducted by the Forest Department at Lamdeng Makha Leikai today.
The event was graced by Thongam Biswajit, Minister of Forest and Environment, who presided as the Chief Guest. Sorokhiabam Rajen Singh, MLA of Lamsang A/C, also attended as the Guest of Honour.
The Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Central Forest Division, in his keynote speech, has stated that the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable forestry practices.
Minister Thongam Biswajit underscored the significance of observing Van Mahotsav in Manipur amidst growing concerns over climate change and global warming. Speaking on the theme “Plant for Mother,” the minister connected the symbolism of planting trees to safeguarding the future, particularly urging students present to embrace environmental stewardship.
“We must observe this festival to raise awareness about climate change. Planting a tree for our mothers symbolizes our commitment to preserving the future,” remarked Minister Biswajit. He also highlighted the launch of an online portal by the Forest Department aimed at tracking tree planting efforts and monitoring climate change impacts across the state.
“By uniting under the theme ‘Plant for Mother,’ we align ourselves with the national goal of planting 40 crore saplings by September. Manipur aims to plant 40 lakh saplings by September 2024,” the minister affirmed.
Additionally, Minister Biswajit addressed concerns about the misuse of funds allocated for tree planting initiatives, stressing the need for accountability in managing resources effectively.
