Directorate of Forest, Environment &Climate Change organised its 5th Anniversary of Media Resource Centre (MRC) at Hotel Imphaltoday. Th. Biswajit Singh, Minister, Forest, Environment and Climate Change graced the gathering as the Chief Guest.
Arun Kumar Sinha, IAS, Principal Secretary, Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Government of Manipur; Irengbam. Arun, Advisor of MRC; Pradip Phanjoubam, Expert Member of MRC; Khogendra Khomdram, Expert Member of MRC; Salam Rajesh, Expert Member of MRC; Neeta Arambam, Joint Director of DoE & CC; Ph. Vivekananda Sharma, Joint Director, DoE & CC, while Dr. T. Brajakumar, Director DoE & CC also attended the function as Special Guest, Guests of Honour and President respectively.
Minister Th. Biswajit expressed that one needs to convince and make people understand the complications of climate change and how and what we shoulddo in tackling issues related to it. There is always a solution for every problem, so one should adopt the habit of sustainablepreservation andinheriting methods or means accordingly. It is undeniable that destruction is done alreadyfor every human civilisation but we should learn its reversing process also,he added.
Biswajit further said that many climatic issues and problems we are facing these days are because we fought with nature and mankind has destructed and disturbed its natural ecosystems.So, from now onwards, positive ideas and new approachesshould be encouraged from every sphere of life to bring in some changes in the environment.
Recalling “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Campaign”, the Minister emphasised the importance of each tree, its contribution towards mankind and the need of preserving such useful natural gift for us. In forest, we have reserved,protected and unclassed forests. The term ‘reserved forest’ is used because it has ample number of rich resources which we all should be aware of,he stated.
Biswajit stated that to make the awareness possible, media, being the voice helping in carrying forward the message of climate change and issues further leading to global forums, plays a major role. Establishing such platform further helps to bridge the gaps between the policy makers, researchers, general practitioners and general public. It has been giving capacity building to almost 50 journalists so far in the state of Manipur. The department, through Media Resource Centre, is presently sponsoring radio plays, programmes and other educational related awareness and initiatives through media.
The Forest and Environment Minister further assured that the Government will support to those who want do research on this matter. Moreover, climate change conclaves should be organised every year for forest and environment climate change. It should be an open forum involving all media fraternity. Media Resource Centre (MRC) of Directorate of Environment & Climate Change was initiated in 2018-2019 with the primary objective to spread awareness of issues revolving around climate change particularly focusing on Manipur, he added.
The main highlight of the function was the felicitationto around 50 climate change media partners, both fromprint and electronic media, by distributing mementos. This felicitation was the 4th edition since its inception. A short video on the activities of Media Resource Centre (MRC) was also shown at the function.
