Imphal, Jan 21:

Manipur celebrated its 53rd Statehood Day at the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground with Chief Minister N. Biren Singh as the Chief Guest. The event featured a march-past parade, a general salute, and recognition of individuals who have made remarkable contributions to the state. Renowned theatre personality Ratan Thiyam was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his exceptional work in promoting art and culture on national and international stages. The award included a citation, a shawl, and a cash prize of Rs. 10 lakh.
The Chief Minister’s Commendation Award was presented to Manoj Prabhakar, Superintendent of Police of Kangpokpi, Shivananda Surve Superintendent of Police of Chandel, and late Chingtham Anand Kumar, former SDPO, who was posthumously recognized for their exemplary service. Also, commendation certificates were awarded to Assam’s Director General of Police, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, and eight other officers for their role in training Manipur Police recruits at Dergaon. Among the recipients were Special DGP Harmeet Singh, and IGP Akhilesh Kumar Singh, alongside Brigadier (Retd) Charandeep Singh, Special DIG Training, and three commandants of LBPA Dergaon, Abdel Quadir Arief, SA Samad Hussain, and Gourav Kumar Agarwal.
During his address, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh stressed the government’s vision for peace, prosperity, and unity in Manipur. He stated, “Our vision is to ensure a future where Manipur stays intact and united, and this goal is only achievable with the cooperation and support of our people.” N Biren Singh also encouraged dialogue as the essential means to address misunderstandings or disputes.
CM N Biren Singh remarked that although Manipur is home to 36 recognized tribes, there remains a lack of understanding about one another’s traditions, languages, and heritage. To bridge this divide, the government unveiled a new book, Know Manipur, intended to promote greater awareness of the state’s rich history, culture, and geography. The Chief Minister also suggested incorporating this knowledge into school curricula.
The state government reaffirmed its dedication to well-rounded development, with N Biren Singh highlighting that genuine progress involves more than just building infrastructure. “Constructing roads and buildings alone is insufficient. We need to improve the quality of life through welfare programs in health, education, and employment,” he stated. He spotlighted major initiatives, including Chief Minister gi Hakshel gi Tengbang, Health for All, the School Fagathansi Mission, free coaching schemes, and the ongoing War on Drugs campaign. He urged government employees to perform their duties diligently and accept postings in all regions of the state.
As part of the celebration, two books—Know Manipur and Good Governance—were officially released.
