5 more houses burnt in Khurkhul area of Imphal West district; 1 Army injured

Suspected armed Kuki militants had burnt five more houses in Khurkhul area in Imphal West district yesterday evening. An Army personnel also sustained bullet injury, an Army report said
Report said that 5 houses – 4 belonging to Meitei and one belonging to a Naga were burnt in Corporation village area which is close to the Leimakhong and Chingmang village in Imphal West district.
Following the attack, womenfolk of the area today came out in the street of Khurkhul and halted all vehicular movement of Security forces alleging them of failure to protect the houses.
As per a villager, at around 10.30 pm people of the Kanto Sabal area heard gunshots towards the villages by suspected armed Kuki militants. State security personnel deployed to protect the villages also retaliated towards the militants, the villager said.
According to the spear crops of the Indian army, one personnel of the Indian Army sustained injury in an incident of ‘unprovoked’ firing by miscreants near Chingmang village in Imphal West in the wee hours of today.
“Armed miscreants resorted to unprovoked firing from Kanto Sabal towards Chingmang village during the night of 18/19 June,” the Spear Corps of the Indian Army informed.
The statement of the Spear Corps said that the Army Columns resorted to controlled retaliatory fire keeping in view the presence of villagers in the area.
The injured Army personnel was evacuated to Military Hospital Leimakhong and is stable, the Spear Corps statement said.
Additional columns have been inducted in the area and joint operations are in progress, the Army added.
