4 lakh WY tablets seized in Jiribam

In a major anti-narcotics operation, a combined team of security forces seized four lakh WY tablets weighing approximately 46.370 kg from a truck along National Highway-37 in Jiribam district on June 4.
According to police sources, the operation was conducted at around 10:30 a.m. by a joint team comprising personnel of Jiribam Police Station led by the Officer-in-Charge, the Special Mobile Patrol Unit, Jiribam District Police, 7th IRB Uchathol, Quick Action Teams of the 48th, 87th, 20th and 156th Battalions of the CRPF, and the 38 Assam Rifles. The operation was supervised by the Superintendent of Police, Jiribam, and led by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Jiribam, along with the Additional Superintendent of Police (Law & Order).
During the operation, the team intercepted a truck bearing registration number AS-17C-6434 at Leingangpokpi village along NH-37 and detected 4,00,000 WY tablets concealed in the vehicle.
The truck was being driven by Pankaj Kumar Ray (30), son of Ramsagar Ray, a resident of Teliya Chhapra under Gulabpatti Panchayat, Sahebganj Police Station, Muzaffarpur district, Bihar.
Following the completion of legal formalities, the contraband was formally seized at around 2:20 p.m. on the same day and the driver was arrested.
A case has been registered at Jiribam Police Station under FIR No. 14(06)2026 JBM PS under Sections 22(c) and 60(3) of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the narcotic consignment.
