Three villagers, including a woman, were killed and seven houses set ablaze in an armed attack at Loibol Khullen village in Kangpokpi district in the early hours of Friday.
According to police sources, reliable information was received at around 5:10 a.m. today that suspected armed miscreants had intruded into Loibol Khullen village at about 4:00 a.m. and launched an attack on the village.
During the attack, the assailants allegedly entered the houses of villagers and opened fire. The deceased have been identified as Letkhongam Haokip (34), son of Manglung Haokip; his wife Tinmary Tuboi Haokip (25); and Jangminlal Haokip (30), son of Seikhohao Haokip. All three succumbed to bullet injuries sustained in the attack.
Police sources further stated that the attackers also set fire to seven houses, a Gypsy vehicle and a Mahindra pickup truck before fleeing the area.
Security forces have launched operations in and around the village, while an investigation into the incident is underway.
Chief Minister condemns the killing of three civilians in Kangpokpi District
Chief Minister of Manipur, Yumnam Khemchand Singh has condemned in the strongest terms the brutal attack at Loibol Khullen village, Kangpokpi District today morning, which resulted in the killing of three innocent civilians.
Terming the act as heinous and cowardly, the Chief Minister asserted that the deliberate targeting of unarmed civilians is completely unacceptable and the government will not spare those responsible for this barbaric act. The Chief Minister has directed the state police and central security agencies to immediately apprehend the perpetrators at the earliest. He also instructed concerned authorities to enhance security in vulnerable areas and provide necessary relief to the affected families.
CM condoles policeman’s death: Yumnam Khemchand Singh also condemned the brutal stabbing to death of Havildar Kh. Suresh Singh (4th IRB attached to CDO Thoubal) while on duty on the night of June 3, 2026. He lauded the Thoubal District Police for their prompt action of arresting the main accused on June 4, 2026. The Chief Minister extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved family of deceased police personnel.
Meanwhile, the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has blamed cadres of the NSCN-IM and ZUF (K) for the attack. In a statement issued by its Secretary, Information and Publicity, Jangkhaolun Haokip, the organisation said the attack began at around 4:00 a.m. and resulted in the deaths of three civilians identified as Letkhongam Haokip, his wife Tinmary Haokip, and Jangminlal Haokip.
Condemning the incident, KIM described the killings as a barbaric act of violence against unarmed civilians and stated that the deliberate targeting of innocent persons and destruction of homes could not be justified under any circumstances.
KIM called for the perpetrators to be brought to justice and warned that it would not be held responsible for any consequences arising from what it described as a heinous crime against the Kuki-Zo community.
No statement had been issued by the NSCN-IM or ZUF (K) regarding the allegations at the time of filing this report.
