At least three minors were reported injured after a bomb exploded at Molnoi Kuki Village near Pallel in Tengnoupal district at around 1.00 pm today. According to reports received here, the injured minors were immediately rushed to the hospital of the 26 Assam Rifles for treatment. The condition of one of the injured minors is stated to be critical. Report said that one among the minor boy was 10 years old while the other two were 8 years old. The explosion took place after the minors played an old 2-inche Mortar Shell.
Meanwhile, a hand grenade was reportedly found near the gate of Liberal College at Luwangshangbam under Heingang Police Station in Imphal East district at around 7.45 am today morning. A team of the Manipur Police Bomb Disposal Squad retrieved the explosive and later carried out a controlled detonation at Marjing Mamang Chingol at around eleven thirty in the morning. No organisation has so far claimed responsibility for placing the grenade, and the motive behind the act remains unclear.
In another incident, a para shell bomb was discovered during excavation work for stone crushing at the Maibam Chonjon Singh Stone Crusher located at Khamaran Village under Sekmai Police Station at around nine in the morning on Tuesday. The Manipur Police Bomb Disposal Squad subsequently picked up the explosive and safely detonated it at Tendongyan Maharabi Loukon at around two twenty in the afternoon, sources said.
