Ukhrul, Dec 1:

The second edition of the Indigenous Canine breed Tangkhul legacy ‘Hao-Fa’ Phanit was celebrated at Phungcham village on Friday.
Under the Theme, “ Preserve and Promote HaoFa” Qr. Khashim Vashum, Veterinary and animal husbandry and transport Minister was the Chief Guest whereas Ql.Kengoo Zuringla, DC Ukhrul was the guest of honour, and Shanngam Shaliwo, DFO Ukl, and Akhui L.Shimray, DGM MSPDCL were the special guest, and Qr. Wungnaongam Horam headman of Phungcham was the chief host.
The Indigenous Canine breed HaoFa is in the process of being declared as an Indigenous breed of the Tangkhul. Preserving Hao-Fa is not only for Phungcham village but for all the Tangkhul as a whole. September to October season is the original mutual birth of HaoFa February to April or other than that month of birth is called manaothei Fa said Tenno Pheirei president of PHLA.
Minister Khashim stated that the Hao-Fa Phanit (festival) celebration is significant to promote and preserve the Indigenous breed of Tangkhul legacy and heritage it is everyone’s responsibility to preserve and protect HaoFa and should not confined only to Phungcham village.
Earlier Minister Khashim Vashum unveiled the Hao-Fa statue at Gandhi Avenue, Ukhrul dictated to all the Tangkhul to capture and bring back the history, legacy, and heritage of our forefathers.
It is pertinent to mention that if you are looking for pure Hao-Fa, here are some features for identification.
Commonly, two types of Hao-Fa are known among the Tangkhuls, one smaller and the other bigger.
Hao-Fa has black hair, black nostrils, red/golden eyes, and loose grey skin, with a long black muzzle and wide jaws, somewhat resembling a bear. They have a thick chest that tapers slightly into their waist and their wide paws. Hao-Fa chest girth and paunch girth are different from other breeds.
It will be very hard to identify during the puppy stage. So always look for the mother and the father for their genuineness.
Make sure that the puppies spend two months with their mother before you take them home. Remember all dogs black in color with cropped ears and docked tails are not Hao-Fa.
The event was organised by Phungcham Hao-Fa Lovers Association (PHLA) in collaboration with Phungcham Village Authority, Phungcham VDC, Phungcham Shinao Long, and Phungcham Katamano Mayar Bgala Long.
