Delhi Association of Manipur Muslim Students (DAMMS) today observed 28th Anniversary of Pangal’s Black Day in commemoration to the May 4, 1993 communal clash in the state leading to the death of around 100 innocent lives.
“Today marks the 28th anniversary of one of the most tragic days in the history of Manipuri’s in general and Manipur Muslims (henceforth Pangals) in particular. The day is observed annually as the darkest day in the history of Pangals”, a statement from DAMMS said.
On this day i.e. on 3rd May and the next i.e. 4th May of 1993,more than 100 Pangals were dead.
Following the clash many started fleeing from their villages, many were turned into destitute in their own homeland. Certainly, many have changed their livelihood in the hope they would be secured in their economic, social and cultural life.
Observing the day the Delhi Association of Manipur Muslim Students (DAMMS) demands for Constituting an independent Special Investigation Team (SIT) to ensure that all the perpetrators are made public. The DAMMS also demanded compensation to the bereaved family members and all those destitute brought about by the incident.
The DAMMS also urged for a public apology from the majority community to the Pangals at large and to ensure similar incidents will not happen again.
