15th handloom day observed

Imphal, August 01: 15th Handloom day was organised by Handlooms Promotion Council, Manipur in support of Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisan’s C.S. Ltd., Imphal today at G.M. Hall, Imphal.

Awards have been distributed appreciating the works done by various individuals of producing maximum number of handloom and handicraft products. Kanan Devi Higher Secondary School, Pangei received the award for using mass Handloom products as their school uniforms.

Attending the function as Chief Guest, Govindas konthoujam, Minister, Commerce and Industries said that he would discuss with the Director of Commerce and Industries to promote handloom products through exhibition in next year. There are many initiatives taken up by the Industries as in last planning commission North East textile promotion scheme has been launched and also awarded to many entrepreneurs who had exported handloom products. He further added that students using handloom products as their school uniforms are a way of promoting handloom products of the state and he appreciated it.
