The 13th All India Speech Contest was conducted on November 27, 2020 by the Korean Cultural Centre India and Korean Embassy in India. The contest is held amongst students selected from among 1,800 students studying Korean Language all over India and awards those with excellent Korean speaking ability. The contest was sponsored by The Korean Embassy and Hyundai Motors Corp.
This year, students from 13 Universities and 7 King Sejong Institute participated in the competition.
From Manipur University and King Sejong Institute, Imphal, 8 students participated in the competition. In November of this year, Manipur University has started Bachelors’ Degree program in Korean Language Honors. And King Sejong Institute, Imphal is an institute established in DM University in August of this year by the government of South Korea through Korean Cultural Centre in order to help spread Korean language.
His Excellency, Shin Bong-Kil, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to India gave a congratulation speech to all the participants.
The competition held this year was very stiff as many of the participating students spoke fluent and excellent Korean. Still, students from Manipur University and King Sejong Institute, Imphal bagged 6 out of a total of 15 awards. This goes to show how far the institutes of Korean Language in Manipur have progressed in such a small period of time.
The winners each received a cash prize of Rs 30,000 to Rs 10,000 and a certificate.
