10 opposition political parties urge Manipur Governor to restore peace

Representative of ten opposition Political Parties in Manipur viz. INC, AAP, AIFB, AITC, CPI, CPI(M), JD(U), NCP, RSP, SS(UBT) today staged a rally and submitted a memorandum to the governor of Manipur demanding the restoration of peace and tranquillity and to save democracy.
Former Chief Minister and CLP leader Okram Ibobi, MPCC president K. Meghachandra, JDU vice president Dr. Kh. Loken Ex- Secretary CPI, L. Sotinkumar, State Secretary CPI (M) Ksh. Santa among others led the rally that started from Congress Bhavan BT road here in Imphal. A minor confrontation occurred between the police and the members of the 10 political parties as the later tried to stop them from proceeding towards the Raj Bhavan at Kangla Western gate area. However, the members of the political parties were allowed to proceed to the gate of the Raj Bhavan.
In the memorandum, the 10 political parties stated that the state government has imposed various prohibitory measures to prevent the citizens from exercising their fundamental rights like freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, constructive criticism to the government, etc. It said that both the Center and the state government are not allowing the people to express their fundamental rights. The ten political parties urged the governor to lift the restriction immediately.
In the memorandum, the 10 political parties also urged the governor to find a lasting solution of the ongoing crisis and also to announce a relief package for the victims of the violence. It also demanded justice for the two missing students and those death bodies lying at both RIMS, JNIMS, and Churachandpur district Hospitals.
