Ukhrul, June 9:

The Tangkhul Music Forum (TMF) is all set to celebrate the second edition of World Music Day on June 21, 2024, in Ukhrul Town. This year’s event promises to be a vibrant and dynamic celebration, featuring an array of performances from Tangkhul singers and bands from both the local region and across the globe.
In a press conference held at Gravity Cafe in Viewland, Ukhrul Town, TMF announced that this year’s World Music Day will be marked by six hours of non-stop music. Eno. Horchuingam Augustin Luiyai Shimray, an internationally renowned indigenous folk singer, founder of the renowned Featherheads band, and Vice President of TMF, shared that the event will be celebrated under the theme, “In the Pulse of the Planet.” This theme underscores the idea that music connects people worldwide, acting like the heartbeat of our planet. It also emphasizes the significant role young people play in utilizing music to foster positive change and bring communities together.
Horchuingam further elaborated on a sub-theme for the event: “Youth as Musical Architects: Building Bridges on World Music Day.” This concept highlights young people as visionary architects who use music to create bridges of connection and understanding in our increasingly interconnected world. Just as architects design physical structures to bring people together, young musicians use their creativity and passion for music to transcend cultural, social, and geographical boundaries. Music, therefore, serves as a powerful catalyst for positive change and collective empowerment, especially on World Music Day.
Traditionally, the Tangkhul people have been enthusiastic about music, with much of their culture, history, and traditions deeply rooted in songs, particularly the “Hao-Laa.” The current generation of Tangkhul youth continues this vibrant musical legacy, showing a strong inclination towards the global music scene.
On World Music Day, TMF plans a series of engaging activities. The celebration will kick off with a parade starting at Ukhrul Higher Secondary Ground. Participants will showcase their creativity through face painting and costume fancy dress inspired by various fictional movies as they march through Ukhrul Town. The parade will culminate at Gandhi Chawk, where an open-air performance featuring various acts will take place. The event will continue into the evening with performances from veteran and renowned Tangkhul artists.
Among the highlights, Singrala Shinglai will be a showstopper, with a mixed performance lineup that includes gospel singers and bands. The press conference also saw participation from TMF’s social and media secretary, Eno. Soringthing, finance secretary, Enoli Chuiyaphy Ahum Shimray, and other key members.
Currently, TMF boasts 163 registered singers and bands, reflecting the vibrant and diverse musical talent within the community. TMF extends an open invitation to all residents of Ukhrul and beyond to join in this grand celebration of music, unity, and cultural heritage.
This World Music Day promises to be a memorable event, celebrating the unique power of music to uplift spirits, inspire change, and unite people across the world. Join TMF in Ukhrul Town on June 21, 2024, and be part of this extraordinary musical journey.
