Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education, Dr. RK Ranjan said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was eager to resolve the longstanding Naga political issue.
Addressing a press conference here at Hotel Japfu on Tuesday (August 17, 2021), the Union Minister, who arrived at Dimapur on Monday for a two-day Nagaland visit, said the Naga peace process remained lingering for quite long but after Modi assumed office, it was activated by signing the Framework Agreement in 2015. Thereafter, a series of positive developments had been taking place to reach the Naga issue to a logical conclusion, he said.
On his arrival at Kohima, he had interactions with leaders of Naga civil societies. He said their common desire was to see the Naga issue was resolved without delay. The messages would be conveyed to Delhi, he said.
Modi often after said without the development of NE, the country could not grow, he said. Modi had a special interest in the development of North East (NE) and asked those inducted into his Council of Ministers to visit people of NE to know their issues and seek their blessings, he added.
On the Opposition-less Government in Nagaland that came into being for finding a solution to the Naga issue, the Union Minister said by tradition, there should be Opposition in a democratic government. They were the watchdog for the betterment of the government and if they were willing to come to the ruling fold for the sake of finding a solution to the Naga issue, it was a positive development, because it was the desire of the Naga people, he added.
Dr. Ranjan said once the Naga issue was resolved, there would be peace in the region in general and Nagaland in particular. Nagaland BJP President and Minister Temjen Imna Along and other senior party workers accompany the Union Minister during the press conference. Before leaving for Imphal by route, the Union Minister had visited the Cathedral Church, Kohima.
