Internationally Acclaimed Award Winning Iranian Film-The Wind Will Carry Us Directed By: Abbas Kiarostami

The 118 minute long internationally acclaimed award winning Iranian film- The Wind Will Carry Us (1999) directed and written by Abbas Kiarostami will be screened on 17th August 2019, the third Saturday at 4 pm at MSFDS Auditorium, Palace Gate here. The monthly screening to be followed by an interactive session is jointly organised by the Film Society of Manipur and Manipur State Film Development Society towards the promotion of good film movement in Manipur. 

In The Wind Will Carry Us, a three-man film crew arrives in a remote Kurdish village outside of Tehran, in anticipation of the death of an elderly woman whose ceremonial burial and attendant mourning rituals they hope to turn into a television documentary. When she doesn’t pass away within the first few days, instead showing signs of recovery, the men are forced to wait out the inevitable.  The title ia a reference to a poem written by the modern Iranian poet Forough Farrokhzad.

The film bagged four major awards including the Grand Special Jury Prize and FIPRESCI Prize from Venice Film Festival and got seven nominations in major international festivals.

Eminent personalities from the Critics Forum, Manipur will share the space of the interactive session to be conducted after the screening of the film. The Swarna Kamal Awardee for Best Book on Cinema in National Film Awards 2017, Bobby Wahengbam  will be the main speaker of the interactive session on the film. All the members of the Film Society of Manipur and Critics Forum, Manipur are informed to attend the screening and to take part in the interactive session.
