Welcoming CM Biren Singh’s clarifications on Buffer Zones and Trifurcation

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s recent clarifications regarding the alleged ‘buffer zones’ and the rumored trifurcation of the state have provided much-needed reassurance to the people. In a press statement on Saturday, CM Biren Singh categorically denied the existence of buffer zones between fringe villages of the valley and surrounding hill areas. He emphasized that while certain areas have been identified as sensitive or hotspot zones, the state government has not designated any specific buffer zones.
It is crucial to note that the chief minister assured the press that the state’s law and order machinery will extend to every corner of Manipur, dispelling concerns that certain areas might be excluded from its purview. This declaration should bring a sense of security to the residents, as it reinforces the commitment of the government to maintain order and safety throughout the entire state.
Furthermore, CM Biren Singh addressed another pressing issue – the news circulating in the media about the possible trifurcation of Manipur along ethnic lines. He vehemently denied any such plans and labeled the social media speculations as false. This clarification is particularly significant given the potential emotional impact on the people, who would undoubtedly be heartbroken if their state were to be divided.
While these clarifications are certainly reassuring, it is worth noting that such terminologies, including the use of buffer zones, exist in official documents. CM Biren Singh’s timely clarification is a step in the right direction, dispelling misconceptions and providing clarity on the state government’s stance.
Most importantly, another issue arises from CM Biren Singh’s last meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah. The Chief Minister informed the media after the meeting that Amit Shah would be overseeing matters in the hills. Furthermore, Meities are denied access to the hills as any Meitei going in the Kuki-Zo areas the hills are never coming back. This raises the question of whether there is an implicit establishment of a distinct administration for the Kuki-Zo community.
However, it is essential to acknowledge that these clarifications should ideally have come earlier, as delay in addressing such sensitive issues can inadvertently contribute to the spread of misinformation and anxiety among the public. Moving forward, proactive communication from the government can play a vital role in preventing the escalation of misinformation and fostering trust among the citizens.
In conclusion, CM Biren Singh’s clarifications on buffer zones and trifurcation are indeed welcomed, bringing relief to the people of Manipur. Clear and transparent communication from the government will be crucial in maintaining harmony and addressing concerns promptly, ensuring the well-being of the state and its residents.
