ITLF calls govt. employees to abstain attending office from Monday

IT News
Imphal, Feb 18 :

The Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) has issued a stern call to government employees in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, urging them to abstain from reporting to work starting Monday. This action comes in response to the suspension of a head constable, allegedly seen alongside armed individuals in a circulated video clip.
The tribal organization demands the immediate rescission of the suspension of head constable Siamlalpaul and the prompt replacement of Superintendent of Police Shivanand Surve and Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar. Following the suspension on February 15, a violent uproar ensued, resulting in the loss of two lives and injuries to 30 individuals as security forces fired upon a mob that stormed a government complex housing the offices of the SP and DC, setting vehicles ablaze, and vandalizing public property in Churachandpur.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of response from authorities, the ITLF stated, “Despite more than 24 hours since the ultimatum was issued to revoke the suspension order and replace the officials, no action has been taken.” They emphasized that government employees risk consequences should they choose to disregard their call to stay away from work.
The suspension of head constable Siamlalpaul was enacted “with immediate effect until further notice” after the dissemination of a video depicting him in the company of “armed individuals” and “in association with village volunteers” on social media platforms. The police department labeled this behavior as severe misconduct, warranting a departmental inquiry.
Siamlalpaul has been instructed not to leave the station without prior authorization, and his remuneration has been restricted to subsistence allowance in accordance with regulations. Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned the violence, confirming the initiation of legal action against an individual for threatening the SP’s life and reassured the public that the damaged DC residence was undergoing repairs. He questioned the motives behind the violent outburst, insinuating an ulterior agenda while affirming the safety of all government records.
